Jes Willis

Do you ever start your day with questions about how to begin, what you should do, and what goals you can complete today? Busy is what our minds have defaulted to in this world where we do things in our own strength. What we lack in time and focus we try to make up for in other areas of our day.
Can I tell you a secret about how I start my day? Each morning, I first thank God for waking me up and tell him how much I love him. This allows me to focus on one thing: a person who can help me govern the day in a helpful, loving, and truthful way. The mornings I don’t start with him first are chaotic and out of order for me.
Quiet time and meeting him in my secret place set the rhythm and tempo for what I had to accomplish. Right now, it’s physical therapy several days a week. Although tiring and sometimes hurtful, it has helped me balance the way I interact with my body. I never thought that at 43, I would have so many issues with my body, back, hips, and legs.
This time has given me many hours of reflection on what I can do and my limits. It has amazed me how we take for granted the time we have or the means by which our days move forward. It has shown me in the areas I never looked at, such as spending time with my family, preparing meals, and enjoying time outdoors until I couldn’t readily do them anymore.
Spontaneous trips or activities are another area that I have had to adjust and think through as well. I never thought that just taking a trip to the beach or the mountains could be complicated or complex. Planning around stretch breaks and how long I would be in the car to impact my physical mobility has been challenging.
Lately, handing it all over to the Lord has saved me from much of the stress and the more challenging parts of my recovery. I never thought I would be writing about this the way I am right now, so new things have also come out of this. God wants you to have moments with him and to allow him to move on your behalf. He reminds us in many ways throughout the day, a gentle nudge, a whispered promise from a verse you remember, a friend or family member who checks on or encourages you. He can show you many things if you let him.
He reminded me today of this scripture, which I read in a Zoom meeting with some friends from church this morning on our prayer call. It’s from John 15. The whole passage was just a reminder of how good Jesus is to us and that we are to be in him. He is the vine, and we are the branches; in him, we have life, and without him, we have death. He also reminds us that he calls us friends, an invitation to a relationship, and meets us where we are, so we don’t have to be perfect to follow him, just ourselves.
Here are the ones that stuck out the most to me, and I hope they also bless you.
‘No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known unto you. Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye may love one another. ‘
John 15:15-17 ASV
He chose us to be with him; no matter our status or position, he wants us all. Will you let him lead you today??
Be Blessed, and have a great day,
Jes
